The Black Cat That Lives Down the Road From my Place
July 20th 2008 21:00
Now that it’s winter, I haven’t seen my feline tabby friend for months. It’s boring not having a kitty to greet me as I come home from work. No miaowing, no leg rubs, no head butting and no crawling into my lap.
Instead, he’s been replaced by the black cat who lives down the road from my place. I first came across it several months ago when I was walking to work and felt something soft and furry brush my legs. I looked down and saw this tiny black cat. I stopped and the cat continued to rub its body against me. Note to all cat haters: how can you hate a creature who so sensuously rubs up against you?
Compared to my neighbour’s cats, this cat is tiny. On the other hand, Higgins is probably twice as large as the average domestic cat. When I first saw him I couldn’t believe a cat could be so large – but that’s another story.
My second sighting of this cat took place last week. I was walking home and noticed this small black cat following a dog up the road. I was surprised at its fearlessness. Surely it must know a strange dog might not take kindly to its presence? At least the cat was smart enough to stay five metres behind the dog at all times.
My third sighting took place this morning. I was on my way to work when I spotted it. It let me stroke its fur. I noticed it had a red collar on with a blue name tag. I tried to get close enough to find out what its name was but the little moggie kept moving around. Silly puss.
