The Cat Hater Who Had a Hello Kitty Wallet
September 22nd 2008 21:00
I used to work with this girl who hated cats. (What’s with all the cat haters in my office?) I found it odd that this girl had a (fake) Hello Kitty wallet. When I asked her about this incongruity, she said, “But that’s not a real cat.” Hmph.
Unlike many Asians, I’m not a big fan of Hello Kitty so a real cat would win hands down any time. Nothing beats pressing my face into Higgins and Miggins’ fur, hearing them purr softly in my ear. Their fur is so soft and silky. I wish I could do the same thing with Butterscotch and Gingersnap but they’re active cats and aren’t the type to liet there and let me press my face against their fur. But they do let me stroke them. Gingersnap purrs louder than any cat I’ve come across. I love to listen to him purr. I find the sound comforting. And he sounds so peaceful and calm.
One thing I cannot seem to get any of these cats to do is to lie on me. Higgins and Miggins love to lie on my neighbour’s chest. These cats weigh about eight kilos each so after a while, my neighbour says they feel really heavy. I once tried to get Higgins to do the same thing to me but he took one look at me lying on my back and ran off. I was disappointed. I wouldn’t even attempt this with Butterscotch or Gingersnap. They don’t lie on anyone, including their owner Brett, but Butterscotch likes to sit on Brett’s lap. When I spend time with these cats, I find it hard to believe people say cats are not loving.
