The Girl who Wants to Give her Pets Away

Over the weekend a friend asked me if I would take her friend’s cat. I said if it wasn’t for the fact my landlord doesn’t allow pets I would definitely consider it.
Then she told me her friend was trying to give her cat away because she had just gotten another cat and dog and the three of them was getting too much for her.
I was about to ask why didn’t she consider this possibility before getting more companion animals when my friend told me she was giving away the cat because it was too independent.
Hello? Aren’t most cats independent? If she didn’t like that aspect of a cat’s character, why did she get one in the first place?
My friend then said now she had gotten the second cat, she preferred it to the first one because it was friendlier.
I was about to express my outrage when my friend did it for me.
“I told her you can’t just get new pets and then give the other ones away. They’re not toys. If you think you are going to get sick of them after a while you shouldn’t have them in the first place.” Thank you.
For once in my life I was glad I couldn’t offer the girl’s cat a home; else she would have learnt that you can just give your animals away when you get sick of them.
I didn’t ask how old this girl was but now I’d like to know. She strikes me as a bit immature and short-sighted.
