The Panda Cam

You’ve heard of web cams and baby cams. Cat Fancy magazine even mentions kitty cams…Now there’s the panda cam!
My sister sent me this link to a panda cam after watching a documentary called Birth of a Panda on TV. The baby panda Tai Shan was so cute. Even cuter was when his fur started to turn pink from being licked by his mother. I wish I could see a panda in real life. The Panda Cam is second best. I went on it today to have a look and at first I saw a panda sleeping. Half an hour later it was sitting down eating bamboo.
It’s kind of voyeuristic. Imagine knowing you’re under video surveillance 24 hours a day. It’s just as well the panda doesn’t know. Every move you make is recorded. One of my friends worked at a radio station which had a web cam into the studio and he hated it as he always felt watched, even though there was no one else around.
My friend Olwen went to China years ago and got the chance to meet a panda. She was so delighted but just as she was getting someone to take a picture of her standing next to the panda, the camera battery died. To this day, she gets annoyed about not being able to get a snapshot. I asked her what the panda was like and she said, “It’s a bear.” So I take it it wasn’t the most friendly of animals.
