The Woman With Fifty Cats

You wouldn’t believe this. One night I came home to find a post-it note stuck to my door, asking me to speak to one of my neighbours.
I know this lady well and I knew if she went to the trouble of leaving a note on my door that whatever it was, it must have been pretty damn important. Despite the fact it was after ten o’clock, I knocked on her door, She answered and told me she thought my unit had been flooded while I was away.
Here’s the story: The bright sparks who live in the unit above me had some plumbing work done earlier during the day. The plumber asked them not to use any of the taps for two hours. They forgot and – incredibly – left one of the taps on and fell asleep. Several hours later, my unit and another one got flooded.
When I told my cleaner friend, Fred, about this, he had a similar tale to share. As a cleaner-cum-caretaker, Fred meets many people and has a special insight on how unusual people can be.
He told me one of the tenants in one of the buildings he cleans/care takes noticed a strange leak coming from her ceiling. She investigated it and surmised it was coming from the unit above her. She then found out the tenant above her had fifty cats, all cramped into a studio apartment.
The tenant knew pets were not allowed in the building so she kept quiet even though this meant she could not get her leaking ceiling fixed. Eventually the landlord found out about the cat hoarding lady and she was asked to move out. She left, taking her fifty moggies with her. No one knew where she went or what happened to the moggies.
