This Book Better be Good

Recently, one of my favourite bookstores decided to have a children’s book clearance. Naturally, I was there on the first day of the sale; you never know what treasures you might find. I was hoping to get some books by Michael Morpurgo since I enjoyed the Nine Lives of Montezuma so much, but all of his work was full price (must be too popular). However, I did find a copy of Blitzcat by Robert Westall HERE .
As with Montezuma, I ummed and ahhed about this book but not for the same reason; during high school my sister and I were forced to read novels about World War II for English – namely, I am David by Anne Holm and L.W. Kingsland; and The Machine Gunners, also by Westall. We hated the depressing themes and the overkill – pardon the pun - led us to being turned off from any war stories for life, with one or two exceptions (Anita Shreve’s Resistance being one of them). Oddly, when I suggested the class read the Diary of Anne Frank, it was vetoed by my English teacher.
Hence my resistance, again, pardon the pun, to buying this book.
In the end, I bought it. One, because it was reduced by 50%. Second, the cat featured prominently in the plot and thirdly, because I wanted to overcome my WWII prejudices. This book better be good then. I’ll keep you posted but I have to get through Green Porno and the Peter Singer book first.
