This is so Not Funny

Catching up with Brett the other night, he had this bombshell to deliver: “Someone suggested I give up Butterscotch and Gingersnap. I’ve been thinking about it as I can’t give them the love properly.”
“Well, I don’t see them much anymore.”
“That’s only temporary. You will find a place to rent soon. Don’t you dare give away my boys. I know people who can take them so you come to me first.”
Brett then backpedalled. “I was only joking.”
“It’s not funny. Why would you joke about something like that?”
“Because I wanted to see how you would react.”
“Well, what do you think? They are like my flesh and blood. I swear, Brett, if you do put them up for adoption I will never speak to you again. That will be the end of our friendship. You don’t just give those boys up when you know how much I love them.”
Brett then said cats are for life and we talked about the double standards people have about animals: most people would never dream of giving up their children when times are tough but a different set of rules seem to apply to their animal children.
“Of course I would never give them up,” said Brett. “I love them too much.”
I was surprised by how vehement I was, just as it occurred to me I had – apart from one ex-girlfriend – had never heard Brett talk about loving anyone apart from his family.
