Tuna Breath

Now I have heard about this but never been close enough to a cat to notice. Or maybe it’s because the cats I’ve been acquainted with haven’t had bad breath. That was until the day I was playing with Butterscotch and Gingersnap. There I was, sitting on Brett’s chesterfield lounge with Gingersnap sitting beside me. I was wearing a black dress which had two bits of string on the bodice, which I would tie into a bow. The bow was constantly untying itself. Curious as to how Gingersnap would react, I grabbed one of the strings and dangled it in front of his face. At first Gingersnap simply looked at it. Then, he became interested and started chewing on it, accidentally clawing me in the process. Gingersnap chewed and chewed and chewed.
By now Butterscotch had wandered into the room. He noticed where Gingersnap was and decided to join him. Butterscotch jumped onto my lap and started chewing on the other string. I watched them to make sure they didn’t bite the string off and choke on it. As I watched the two squirming cats, I noticed a fishy smell coming from the strings, that were now soaked with cat saliva. It was so cute!
But I wonder what it is that cats find attractive about string. Sure, it can be fun to play with but to chew on it endlessly? Surely it can’t be the taste. And it’s not as if string is edible. One of life’s mysteries, I guess.
