Update: Butterscotch and Gingersnap can Stay (Well, Sort of)
June 18th 2009 21:00
I hadn’t seen my friend Brett for a while so all I had were brief chats with him. In those brief chats he passed on garbled updates about my favourite boys.
I finally got to catch up with Brett properly last night so I decided to ask him what was going on with Butterscotch and Gingersnap and his strange tale of the property manager turning up out of the blue.
It turns out the property manager claims she had sent Brett a letter advising him of the time and date she was going to do an inspection. Brett said he never received the letter and thinks she was lying anyway. Based on my experience from years of renting I couldn’t agree more. The inspection letters I used to get would include a request to call the property manager back to confirm 1) I received the letter and 2) the best time for him to do the inspection. Even if she did send a letter out, she should have then called Brett to find out why she hadn’t received a response instead of just showing up which is illegal anyway.
Anyway, Brett had just come home from work when he found the property manager standing outside his house. He had no choice but to let her in but explained that because he hadn’t received notification of an inspection, he hadn’t had the chance to make his place look presentable.
He opened the door and there were my darling babies, running around the house. The property manager asked why they were there. Brett said he was cat sitting for his parents because they were sick. Seeing through his story (after all, she has seen the cats there before), she then said the owner wanted to also do an inspection and she advised Brett to hide them from him when he comes over.
