“Want nummies! Now!”

I was enchanted by this story of Yama, the incredible talking cat who called out for his Mama and demanded nummies whenever he was hungry. His voice was so human-like that a guest, one Brad Steiger who later recalled the incident in his book Cat Miracles, had mistaken his cries for that of a child. But what on earth are nummies? A quick Google revealed it is slang for wet cat food. How deceptively simple. A nice easy word for a cat to learn. If only I could teach my beloved Butterscotch and Gingersnap how to talk but the chances of this happening are probably zero. They seldom speak cat amongst themselves so I doubt they’re going to bother learning English.
