Where is Brett?

What a bummer of a night it was. Last Saturday, Brett and I and a couple of friends went out to see a live band. Brett and I were catching up on all the goss while we waited for our friends’ band to come on.
Then the guitarist started warming up and Brett said he would be back before he moved closer to the stage to take some photos.
The band was really good so I was dancing away. Towards the end of their one hour set I realised I had forgotten to ask Brett about how Butterscotch and Gingersnap were going. That was when I realised I had not seem him for some time but I was not concerned; Brett often liked to move around the stage during the whole performance taking photos. He would then come back to find me at the end of their gig and we would then have a chat to the band members.
When the band finished, we waited for the DJ to come back on. After a minute or two and no DJ but plenty of lousy Leonard Cohen songs in the background, the crowd began to disperse. That was when I realised Brett was not around.
I quickly searched the club for him but could not locate him. I even checked the band’s room. Then I asked the guitarist and drummer but both of them said they had not seen Brett either. Then it dawned on us Brett must have left. This was very unusual behaviour.
I then called and texted him but there was no response. Ironically, for someone who loves people, Brett is hopeless at returning calls and replying to text messages and emails. If you really need to talk to him you have to keep calling and calling until you get hold of him. You also cannot call from a private number as Brett will not take the call. One of my friends has the same problem with her brother and she once said, “You have to stalk him if you really need to talk to him.” I then wondered if Brett’s terminally ill father had taken a turn for the worse which might explain his sudden departure. I have been checking his Facebook profile but there has been no recent activity. So much for getting an update on my favourite boys, both human and feline.
