Why Do People Hate Cats?

Ever since I’ve started displaying pictures of cats on my desk at work, I am amazed by the number of people who have told me they hate cats. When I ask them why they either say ‘Cos I do. I just hate them.’ Or they say they hate cats because they don’t do anything. I’ve also seen this mentioned in many cats books. There’s even a book about why someone hates cats. But again, why?
Does anyone out there have any idea? Other reasons I’ve heard is that they kill birds, they don’t follow you around like dogs, are narcissistic and boring. You seldom come across people saying they hate dogs. I think my friend Fred is the only dog-hater I have ever come across. In Fred’s eyes, cats win hands-down every time as he finds their fur is softer and cleaner. He also likes the fact your hand doesn’t smell after touching a cat. Let’s face it: I love dogs as much as the next person but I do find some of them do smell. But Fred also says cats are users. He says they will ignore you until they want something (usually food) and then they will follow you around and snuggle up to you. In that case, my ducks were users too. Ducks can be very timid and independent (just try approaching one in the park) but when you have food they will follow you around. In fact, users were what my sister and I nicknamed Brown-o and White-o.
Maybe it’s their independence (which can be perceived as a so-called lack of loyalty) which makes some people hate cats. But that comes down to the breed of cat. I’ve come across cats that will keep rubbing themselves against my leg for as long as I let them or will follow me around the house, including the bathroom. To this day, I cannot use the thrown at my friend’s house without Butterscotch and Gingersnap watching. They follow me so quickly that by the time I reach for the door knob to shut the door, it’s already too late. They will actually stand in front of the throne and watch while I go about my business and they follow me back out into the living room once I’m done.

Thats my Wista Duck at one day old. He's over a yr now - he was a rescued egg from a land clearing site. He was the only one that hatched. He chases me for cuddles and thinks he should live inside.
As for people hating cats, Ive decided they must have been killed by a tiger in a previous life. They can never come up with a good enough reason in my book - the cat is a picture of beauty and grace, a perfection of evolution.

Everyone I know who "hates" cats seem to also "hate" events, people, situation, etc. in which they cannot control. They also seem to all have virtually NO patience whatsoever.
(My partner is a prime example of a typical “cat-hater”)
Funny enough, though, all my friends who said they hated cats would come over to my place and end the visit with “I still don’t like most cats but I DO like YOUR cat…”
