One of my sister’s friends is a graphic artist. When my sister told me this, I was expecting someone who creates artwork on his computer. So imagine how surprised I was to see his pencil drawings. One of them showed a female dog in a dress working away. Behind her are several male cats dressed in male office attire, all with unfriendly expressions on their faces. I was trying to work out what he was trying to say when my sister said, “It’s about discrimination. She’s a female dog – a bitch – and all the male cats don’t want to work with her. My friend was trying to say that cats and dogs should have equal opportunity.”
The next one was of a headless man wearing a diving suit. He was also working away. A fishbowl was where his head was supposed to be. Inside the bowl was a goldfish. This one left me stumped. After looking at it for several moments my sister explained that this was also an anti-discrimination drawing. “The man can wear a suit and so can the goldfish.” She then said both drawings had been rejected by her friend’s client. Okay, so the second one was a bit subliminal and stretched the imagination but I thought the cats and dogs concept was clever. I have to give credit to him. He has one heck of an imagination.
