I had to give the woman credit for having the guts to tackle her phobia. In the end, not only did she end up touching the box but she was game enough to touch the snake once it was let out. She even said it was beautiful. I wish I could do the same thing about my caterpillar phobia. The problem is I lack the motivation. Not only that, I don’t think I could ever bring myself to love them and admire their ‘beauty’. My friend Fred loves caterpillars and likes to touch their hairs. When I mentioned this to my caterpillarphobic best friend Andrea, all she could think of were the stings he could get. The discussion led to childhood memories of spitfires, which all the kids I used to hang out with told me not to touch in case I got stung (not that I wanted to anyway).
What about you? Are you prepared to see a psychologist to try to overcome your phobias? Or are you like me in that you lack the motivation to do something about them?
