The last time this happened I was really upset. I went home and my neighbour noticed I was feeling down and asked me why. I told her.
The fellow animal lover she is said (God bless her), “I’d rather be called a horse than other names. Horses are beautiful animals. Why do people think it’s an insult to tell someone they look like an animal?” Good point.
People like to say a particular person looks dog ugly or like a pig as an insult but in all honesty, how many ugly dogs do you come across each day? In fact, mention dogs to people and most people’s faces will light up as they talk about how cute they are. Same with horses. Pigs are another matter altogether but you get the picture.
I think the following piece we used to say at school sums things up perfectly. I can’t recall the exact words but it went something like this:
I am a bitch.
A bitch is a female dog.
Dogs bark.
Bark grows on trees.
Trees are part of nature.
And nature is beautiful.
